Evington Volunteer Fire Department

Located in Campbell County in Central Virginia, the EVFD began its life in 1981 when a handful of dedicated individuals, along with the County, recognized the need for a fire station within the growing Evington community. By late 1981, construction was well underway on a building on State Route 24 (now Colonial Hwy) for the newly formed Department. Used apparatus was purchased, training conducted, and the new Department began officially operating from its new home in the summer of 1982.

By 1998, with an increasing number of calls in and around the Route 29 corridor, the need was seen for an additional station to enhance coverage and reduce response times in that area. Property was acquired on Elmwood Lane and construction was begun on Station 2. The station was equipped and operational in 1999.

In addition to our Firefighting/Fire Prevention role, the EVFD is licensed by the Virginia Department of Health, Office of Emergency Medical Services as a Non-Transport First Responder - BLS (Basic Life Support) provider.

The Department currently has 25 elected Firefighter and EMS volunteers, including a Chief, two Assistant Chiefs, two Captains, and two Lieutenants. Additionally, an 11 member Board of Directors, consisting of both Firefighters and citizens, oversees the financial and administrative functions of the Department and assists with fundraising and other activities as needed.

Evington Company 17 is one of nine fire companies and nine EMS squads operating in Campbell County. All operate under the guidelines and oversight of the Campbell County Department of Public Safety, which is also responsible for countywide E911 and central dispatch of Law Enforcement, EMS, and Fire within the county. Our 1st and 2nd due response area is approximately 160 square miles total, much of which is rural and without public water supply. We also provide Mutual Aide response to areas and localities outside of our normal territory when requested.

We at Company 17 are an incredibly diverse group of individuals, brought together by an immense pride in our community, concern for our fellow citizens, and a strong desire to serve. We are proud to call this place our home.
